I'm a blogger! I blog!

It's official. I am now a blogger! I admit I'm not much of a writer, and I don't know how good I'll be at this whole blogging thing, so here goes nothing.

I guess I'll start off with a bit of background. My name is Sachi. I am 24 years old and just graduated with a degree in Business Management from BYU. I figured I've reached a point in my life where "real life" is going to begin, so what better time than now to start documenting it!


Graduation was an interesting experience. I was SO ready to be done with school, but had absolutely no plan for the future. For those of you who know me well, you know that this drove me crazy considering that I'm the type of person who likes to have everything planned months in advance. I have spent the past year sending in applications and resumes to all types of companies but to no avail. It wasn't that I wasn't getting interviews, it was that nothing really seemed to "feel right." I found myself days before graduation giving the same answer to the same question I would get asked over and over again. The conversation would go something like this:

"I'll be graduating this April"
"Wow, congratulations. What are your plans for after graduation?"
"Ha ha. I have no idea."
"Wait, isn't graduation next week?"
"Yup."
"Oh."
"I know."

I can't tell you how many times I had this conversation. Yeah, it was a little embarassing to tell people that I was graduating from the Marriott School without a job. But deep down, I just trusted that everything would turn out okay. I mean come on, worst case senario - I graduate without a job. So I look for one. No big deal right? Yeah the economy's horrible and finding a job is rediculously difficult, but someone will hire me right? I mean I have a good degree from a good school? How bad could it really be?

Well, I got lucky. Three days after graduation, Delta Airlines flew me out to Atlanta to interview for their Japanese Speaking Flight Attendant position. It was a 7 hour interview process and a bit intimidating considering that the majority of applicants were native Japanese speakers. It was a really neat interview process and my favorite part was that we got to meet a bunch of Delta Filght Attendants. I had no idea they came from such different backgrounds. One lady who had been with Delta for over 30 years had a Ph.D. and was working as a college professor before switching over to Delta. Another guy was from Ireland and graduated with a degree in marketing like me. He started working as a flight attendant for Delta as a filler job between jobs, and 20 years later he is still there and loving it. What's more, they told me that once you "get your wings", tons of opportunities open up to you. I found out that if I wanted to work on a marketing project for Delta, I could take a few months off from flying and spend it working on various projects instead. Cool!



Well, like I said I got lucky and they offered me the job! I'm technically not hired yet (I still have to pass the drug test and background check), so right now, I'm just waiting for the phone call. As soon as it comes, I'm off to Atlanta for 8 weeks of intensive training. I've heard it's rigorous and exhausting...but then I think to myself. I just graduated from the Marriott School. Plus I've done the missionary thing for a year and a half. What can be more rigorous and exhausting than that? But who knows, maybe I'll be surprised.

So there's the update on everyday me right now. Today is my last day of work at the Marriott School, so for now, life is an unfilled planner. I guess this will be a good time to do some of the things that I haven't had time to do while I was in school: zumba, tennis, read for fun. Oh and cook!

I'm not really good at it, but can I just say how fun it is? I haven't gone grocery shopping in awhile, so the past couple of days have been "hmm, what can I make with the left-over ingredients in my fridge" kind of days. It's amazing what you can create when you're constrained to certain ingredients. I have to say my "sateed veggies over grilled lemon pepper chicken" was quite delectible. Oh and my "artickoke heart and tomato with a bit of lemon juice chicken pasta" wasn't half bad either. I'll have to remember to take pictures of my creations now that I have somewhere to brag about them he he he.
